A Winter Season at Hintlesham Hall: New Experiences and Winter Breaks in Suffolk
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over Hintlesham in winter. Frost silvers the lawns, smoke curls from the old chimneys, and inside, the fires that have warmed these rooms since the fifteenth century are lit once more. For nearly six hundred years, this house has welcomed guests in from the cold. This season, we've found a few new ways to do it.
Here is what awaits you this winter, whether you come for an afternoon, an evening or a long, lingering stay. If you've been searching for winter breaks in Suffolk, we'd love to welcome you.
Gather in the kitchen
On Wednesday 11 November, Executive Chef Lee Cooper opens the doors of our kitchens to just six guests. Over a relaxed morning, he'll cook his way through the flavours of the season, sharing the thinking and techniques behind the dishes in Carrier's Restaurant. Then, as any good host should, he'll send you through to the dining room to enjoy them as a three-course lunch. £110 per guest. Find out more about our cookery demonstrations.
Make something beautiful by the fire
For the first time, we're inviting guests to spend an evening wreath-making with our florist, Kaye Souter. On Thursday 19 and Thursday 26 November, from 7pm, settle in beside the log fire with a glass of mulled wine and festive canapés, and leave with a sixteen-inch wreath of your own making to hang on your door. £75 per person, all materials included.
Restore yourself
Winter is when the body asks for a little more care. In our Beauty Treatment Rooms, warm TempleSpa oils, unhurried therapists and an outdoor jacuzzi steaming in the cold air do exactly that. Our spa packages pair your chosen treatments with afternoon tea or a two-course meal in our two AA Rosette restaurant, and leave you free to drift between the relaxation lounge and the terrace for as long as you like.
New this winter: golf and vineyard escapes
This season we've added two new experiences that take you out into the Suffolk countryside and bring you home to the Hall.
Our Winter Golf Break pairs an overnight stay and full English breakfast with a round of weekday golf at an exclusive guest green fee of £50 per person, along with use of our leisure facilities. From £295 per couple, November to February.
Our Burnthouse Vineyard Escape takes you to Burnthouse Vineyard for a guided tour and tasting, with return travel arranged so that nobody needs to drive. From approximately £40 per person, with accommodation added to make it a complete overnight break.
Evenings to remember
As the season builds, so does the Hall. On Saturday 28 November, our Mrs Brown's Boys Comedy Dinner promises three courses and a great deal of laughter (£72.50). Through December, our Christmas Party Nights fill the house with music, dancing and the clatter of casino tables (from £69.50). And on New Year's Eve, our black-tie gala ends the year as only Hintlesham can: Crémant, four courses, dancing until two and our famous fireworks lighting up the old façade (£165).
Should you wish to stay on after the party, rooms are available on these evenings from £165, with a full English breakfast to greet you in the morning. See everything that's on at the Hall.
When January comes
On Monday 25 January, we raise a dram to Robert Burns. Our Burns Night Supper brings Scottish tradition to an English country house: the Address to the Haggis, a toast with a whisky from our collection, and a menu celebrating Scotland's larder. £110 per person, with whisky and wine flights available.
Stay a while: winter breaks in Suffolk
Of course, the simplest pleasure of a winter break in Suffolk is having nowhere else to be. Each of our 32 bedrooms and suites has its own character, from canopied beds to tall windows looking out over the parkland. Walk the frosted grounds, curl up in a lounge with a book, and let dinner arrive in its own good time. Your dog is welcome too, in our dog-friendly rooms.
When you book directly with us, you'll find our latest seasonal offers waiting. Winter At The Hall brings two unhurried nights with prosecco on arrival, a country house breakfast each morning and £40 each towards dinner on both evenings. A Taste of Hintlesham pairs six courses of seasonal, local cooking with a Superior bedroom and a full country house breakfast, from £420 per room this winter.
