All About Ipswich Suffolk: What to do and Where to Stay

Hintlesham-hall-icon

There are many must-see places in Ipswich – it’s a place brimming with history, and things to see and do, while also offering a bevvy of great food and drink. Ipswich is an easy distance from London, making it a great place to visit for the day or for a longer holiday break. The prospect is even better with warm weather peaking over the horizon. We’ve added a few must-see destinations to start you off on your trip to Ipswich along with the best place to stay in the area.

Ipswich Waterfront

The dock was first opened in 1842 as the largest inland launch dock in the country but fell into disrepair in the late 1990s. Recently, however, the area has been revived. Old warehouses that once stored freight have become gourmet eateries, modern residences, and elegant apartments, making the dock an ideal destination to discover great food and drink with views out to the moored yachts.

Must-Try Restaurants

Ipswich is home to more great restaurants than can fit on one list, but we will do our best to get you started. For a fishy feast, try the Ocean Fish Platter, or for meat and a range of substantial sides, discover 16 Steak. For a taste of British gourmet, try the Brook Inn, or for decidedly French flavours try Mariners. For an eating experience from further afield try the Japanese/ Korean venue Takayama, or Indian cuisine at Maharani.

Easter and Spring Events

Ipswich will be home to many Easter and Spring events in 2023. From Easter egg hunts, lambing events, and family fun days, there will be something for everyone in the family. For more information on what’s on, take a look at the list here to plan your Easter adventures.

Family Fun

How about seeing some animals if you need more ideas to entertain the family? Several animal farms are around Ipswich, including Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, home to pigs, goats, sheep and many more, allowing children to feel like farmers for the day. They will also be hosting an Easter lambing event with fun for the whole family. Alternatively, try Hilly Ridge Alpacas to get up close and personal with these unique creatures. Both places will keep your family entertained for hours.

Holywells Park

This place is an icon of the area with a history that dates back to mediaeval times. The park opened in 1936, and since then, it’s entertained generations while also enjoying Conservation Area status and protection. It’s currently home to family favourite Pirate Ship Park and playground areas to keep the children entertained for hours.
